Air and Water

I am interested in designing and studying policy instruments that help manage the quality of our air and water. I have worked for several years in India on the use of market-based instruments to control air pollution. I am also interested in ground-water, in particular the so-called "food-energy-water" nexus, linking agriculture, groundwater exploitation, and electricity supply to farmers.

Electricity and Energy

I also work on technical and policy instruments that might improve access to electricity for people in developing countries. Some of my research considers how to create sustainable electricity distribution markets in developing countries such that power is both supplied, and paid for.  I am also interested in behavioral interventions to change energy use, for example to reduce wastage.

Climate Change

Some of my work focuses on climate change impacts in developing countries, and adaptation to climate change. Even optimistic mitigation scenarios will not prevent significant changes in the climate of countries such as India, creating challenges that range from reduced worker productivity to large-scale migration.
